GIULIANI WANTED LINE CLEAR, GOLISANO SAYS.(CAPITAL REGION)(Correction notice)

B. Thomas Golisano said Thursday that one of New York's most prominent Republicans, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, asked him several months ago to consider a gubernatorial run on the Liberal Party line and to leave the Independence Party line for Gov. George Pataki.

Golisano said he received the call from Giuliani in the spring, long before he announced he would try to wrest the Independence line from Pataki in a primary battle and bounce the governor off the Conservative line through a write-in campaign.
