VIC:Baillieu puts brake on fundraisers
MELBOURNE, Feb 18 AAP - Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu has ordered ministers not to
attend fundraising events until a new code of conduct is complete.
Transport Minister Terry Mulder and Planning Minister Matthew Guy recently came under
scrutiny after reports they had agreed to attend a $1500-a-head fundraiser scheduled for
next week.
The event was to be hosted and sponsored by accountancy firm Deloitte, which is conducting
a review of Victoria's Myki public transport ticketing system.
Mr Baillieu was also accused of hypocrisy recently after he and up to 10 ministers
attended a cocktail function hosted by the 500 Club, a Liberal Party fundraising group.
On Friday, Mr Baillieu said ministers would not be able to attend corporate functions
until a probity code had been developed.
He said the Liberal Party had put on hold any events with a corporate nature, such
as the Deloitte function, but the 500 Club's cocktail party was still allowed.
"The 500 Club was an annual event, it is a cocktail event, it wasn't a fundraising
event and in that sense I don't think there will be an issue," Mr Baillieu told reporters.
The premier did not specify when the guidelines would be released but said an awful
lot of work on them had already been undertaken.
